Policies, Rules and Etiquette
Code of Conduct
Afterburn strives to provide a clean, safe, professional and inclusive environment to all users of the facility. Behaviour contradicting these conditions is an automatic violation of our code of conduct. The following Code of Conduct sets forth expectations for all participants. This list is by no means exhaustive; if you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to send us an email.

By entering the premises of Afterburn Performance Fitness, all members and guests agree to abide by the following Code of Conduct:

Change into indoor shoes when entering the facility

Wipe down all equipment after use

Return all equipment to the appropriate storage area immediately after use

Refrain from bringing large bags onto the gym floor during off-peak hours*, and store all accessory items in your bag when not in use

Food is not permitted on the gym floor

Aggressive behaviour which threatens or endangers the health and safety of any person or the facility property is prohibited

Refrain from boisterous and obnoxious behaviour

Respect the rights of other people to use this facility and share the use of the equipment where possible

Treat all equipment with care and report any broken equipment to management

Use specialty equipment exclusively for their intended purpose to increase longevity (see Specialty Equipment Rules)
All participants and visitors are required to report any violation of this Code of Conduct to an Afterburn staff member immediately at info@afterburnfitness.ca.

*Off-peak hours: When there are no teams and during the week before 6:00 pm
Specialty Equipment Rules
Specialty equipment are the coloured bumper plates, coloured metal plates, weightlifting platforms and coloured barbells.
Coloured metal plates and change plates (small fractional plates) which are located on the two plate trees by the deadlift platform as well as the Rogue Power Bars (aggressive knurling/grip) must only be used for powerlifting movements: squat, bench and deadlifting.

Coloured metal plates and change plates (small fractional plates) which are located on the wall by raised Oly platforms as well as the Olympic lifting bearing bars (coloured band on bar) should only be used for Olympic lifting movements: cleans, jerks and snatches. No squatting or deadlifting.
Memberships
What are the different types of memberships?

Are there any specific rules I need to follow once I’m a member?
Yes! The member contract provided during the sign up process details all the rules and policies that need to be followed in the gym. Please click here to view to member contract.
Dragon Boat (WIP)
What is Dragon Boat?
Dragon Boat is a paddle sport that features 20 paddlers, 1 steersperson and drummer in a 40 foot canoe like boat racing in distances from 200 meters to 2000 meters with the most common being 500 meters. While originally a cultural activity dating back over 2000 years in China, it has grown to be a sport enjoyed worldwide in a number of different variations.
How can I join?
Dragon boat has teams that are united by different abilities, demographics, goals and special interests. Afterburn provides coaching, indoor training and also partners with paddling clubs across the GTA to operate programming for a number of different goals according to the Canoe Kayak Canada Long-Term Athlete Development model here. All programs benefit from certified trainers and coaches, with sport-specific experience and vulnerable sector screening.

Primezone
What is Primezone?
Primezone is a dedicated 50-60 minute HIIT workout class designed to optimize your performance and foster a sense of community. Each session is crafted to push your limits, improve your fitness, and leave you feeling accomplished—without sacrificing fun or motivation. Who can join?
No experience needed! Primezone HIIT is suitable for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced athletes. Our trainers provide modifications for exercises to ensure everyone can participate safely and effectively, regardless of their experience or fitness background.
What happens after my free trial ends?
After your 2-week free trial, you can choose from a range of membership options to continue attending Primezone HIIT classes. We offer flexible plans to suit your needs, whether you're looking for a monthly membership, 3 months, or 6 months.
Payment Terms - Refunds/Cancellations
Dragon Boat Pool Bookings
There is a $200 non-refundable deposit, remainder one week before booking. Unfortunately we do not offer any refunds for the pool bookings. For any weather/inclement weather related cancellation refunds, they are at the discretion of Afterburn management. However, we do want each team to be safe and will generally be more cautious under those circumstances.
Memberships
There are no cancellation fees for any of our memberships, however we typically do not offer any refunds. Please send us an email through info@afterburnfitness.ca if you have any inquiries on membership refunds/cancellations.
Group Classes/Personal Training
​​Refund and cancellation terms are at the discretion of each trainer. Please contact them directly for any inquiries about any refunds/cancellations.
Using the Gym
What should I bring?
You should bring the following items to the gym:

Membership card

Workout clothes and a pair of indoor shoes

A water bottle
Paddlers should bring the following to the gym in addition to the items listed above:

Flip-flops or shoes you don’t mind getting wet for pool use

Butt-pads (up to preference)
A workout rag to wipe down equipment after use is provided at the gym.
How do the membership cards work?
A membership card is provided when a member joins the gym. The card is meant exclusively for use of the member it is issued to and is not transferable. Each member must tap their card to gain access to the gym, and must tap out before leaving. If a member forgets their membership card, they must report to the front desk to confirm that they are an active member.
If a membership card is lost, the member must email Afterburn to set up a replacement card. An additional $5 deposit fee is required to replace a lost card.
What are the gym hours?
The gym is open from 5AM-11:59PM, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Staffed hours are typically from Monday-Friday 11AM-8PM, Saturday & Sunday mornings.
Why aren't you staffed throughout the day?
When Andrew is not at Afterburn, he's normally paddling at Sunnyside Paddling Club where he is also a general manager. Not staffing the facility throughout the day also allows us to provide more flexible hours economically. Send an email to us if you’d like to know when the gym will be staffed for any drop ins or appointments!
What's the minimum age required to join?
The minimum age to join is 12 years. We require a parent or legal guardian to sign on behalf of the minor if they are below the age of majority.
Are group classes included?
Group classes aren’t included unfortunately, but you can check out our list of group training classes here.
Do you have showers?
Unfortunately, we do not have any showers in our facility. When designing the gym, we focused on maximizing the space and equipment available for use.
Can I bring my gym bag into the gym?
Members are welcome to bring their bags with them into the gym area. Please ensure that your bag does not impede any other members, walkways, and are ideally next to the garage door.
What's the policy on photography/video?
Photographs or video may be taken by the Afterburn owner(s), management or employees for the purpose of building and promoting the Afterburn experience and environment and may be published on the facility’s X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, website or on the facility’s community board.
Photographs or video may be taken by participants however, they should not capture other members, visitors, or associates unless you have their prior verbal consent. If a guest, or member's photography/videography is determined to be a safety concern or disruption, that associate, guest, or member can be asked to refrain from photo and video capture at any time at the discretion of management.
Are there any lockers?
Unfortunately we do not have any lockers on-site. It’s best if you leave all valuables in your car or on you.
How many washrooms and changerooms are there?
We have 3 washrooms and 4 changerooms. Especially for those training with a team, it is best to come dressed and leave all valuables in your car. Our changeroom area is not large.
Can I use the pool/paddle ergs?
Absolutely! As long as the pool or erg room is not booked beforehand they are free for all to use. Please see here to find out when they are booked.
Health and Safety
Minor and Major First Aid
For minor cases (cuts, scratches, etc) of first aid, contents from the red box should be used. In there it contains band aids, light gauze, scissors and tweezers, antibiotic ointment, tylenol/aspirin and alcohol - 70%.
For major cases of first aid, contents from the white box should be used.
Backups for All First Aid Events
In case of backup, a red case located right side head-level in the caretaker’s closet contains all of the above scenarios and more severe first-aid supplies.
Any use of the white box or red case must be reported to Afterburn, including the nature of the event (what happened, time/date) and what supplies were used.
Location of First Aid
The red and white first aid box is located in the gym above the sound speaker system. There is also an AED located near the first aid boxes.
Cleaning Equipment
Afterburn provides alcohol spray bottles which are located at the front of the facility in the lobby, along with clean cloths in front of the desk for members to wipe down equipment after use.
Cleaning products/tools for barbells are located in the member area on the wall furthest from the entrance.

Please refer to our facility map. We have three washrooms, four change rooms, and two water dispensers. There is also a microwave and mini fridge in the reception area.
