What is Dragon Boat?

Dragon Boat is a paddle sport that features 20 paddlers, 1 steersperson and drummer in a 40 foot canoe like boat racing in distances from 200 meters to 2000 meters with the most common being 500 meters. While originally a cultural activity dating back over 2000 years in China, it has grown to be a sport enjoyed worldwide in a number of different variations.

The Trifecta

Afterburn is the premier off-season destination for dragon boat in Toronto and the world due to its unique trifecta offering to paddlers. We also offer on-water experiences by partnering with various paddling clubs in the GTHA.

Dragon Boat Paddling Pool

Living in Canada, we can only paddle at best 6 months of the year. During the remaining months our paddling pool provides an experience that is  as close to being on a boat without actually being on one and with fair weather every time it allows paddlers to pickup and refine their stroke efficiently.

Paddling Ergometers

Ergometers are an essential part of the trifecta because they provide a quantifiable output on how an individual paddler is performing unlike the pool. This comes at the expense of the feel of the stroke feeling less like  being on the water resulting in sub-optimal paddling technique. Nonetheless, its an integral part of a building up a paddler.
